MACHAKOS, Kenya, Jun 15 – Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua has interdicted two Chief Officers and suspended 36 officers in the Ministry of Water.

Mutua said the Chief Officers have been interdicted for two and three months respectively.

Others suspended include engineers, supervisors and geologists among other officers.

Addressing the press in Machakos, Mutua said the officers have been interdicted as a result of lethargy and inability to meet set deadlines and general failure to deliver the water program as per deadlines by the government.

“The culture of process has to change to a culture of results. Wananchi want to see roads, water, proper healthcare and other services in a timely and efficient manner,” said Mutua.

He said a deadline that is not met means an additional day of suffering for the people adding this will not be tolerated by his government.

Mutua revealed that the suspended officers are under investigation for various crimes and malpractices and which include, theft of fuel, diversion of drilling rigs from public to private homes, receiving and asking for bribes and other unethical practices.

“The spirit of Maendeleo Chap Chap is quality, efficiency ,and speedy delivery of development projects and services. The message is clear. Work or go home,” said Mutua.

The Governor appointed Mwikali Muthoka as the acting Chief Officer and also appointed Agnes Nyaboke as the Deputy Director Government Delivery Unit, in charge of projects completion.
