NAIROBI, Kenya, May 28 – The Raila Odinga led Coalition for Reforms and Democracy will now have to look for an alternative ground for their Madaraka Day rally, after police said Uhuru Park, the venue they preferred, had been booked.

Uhuru Park, according to Nairobi County Commander Japheth Koome is already booked for three days, by Prayer Beyond Boundaries Ministries.

“I have written to CORD over the same. They will have to look for an alternative venue,” Koome told Capital News.

Koome’s letter reads: “Your notification of participation on Madaraka Day at the same venue is therefore not approved.”

CORD had said that they wanted to celebrate, “civil liberties, freedoms and reaffirm the quest for constitutionalism in Kenya.”

All the main principal’s led by Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula were to attend the June 1 celebrations at Uhuru Park.

The opposition has been calling for disbandment of the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) over integrity issues, an agenda that was set to be addressed during the rally.

President Uhuru Kenyatta will lead the country in celebrating the Madaraka Day celebrations in Nakuru County.

Nakuru will be the first County to host the national day outside Nairobi.
