NAIROBI, Kenya, May 23 – The National Alliance (TNA) on Monday urged the rival Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) to dialogue to resolve the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) stalemate.
TNA Secretary General Onyango Oloo at a press conference condemned CORD’s demonstrations saying they will not offer any solution but lead to disruptions and destruction.
“We cannot disband our institutions at the whim and wishes of individuals. We are ready today, tomorrow for proper dialogue – but through the legally constituted channels,” he said.
He said the demonstrations had led to a series of inconveniences including serious injuries of people, destruction of property and loss of businesses.
Oloo further alleged that TNA offices in Kibera were destroyed during Monday’s demonstrations.
He said the party will write to the Registrar of Political Parties to complain about the attack.
Whereas he announced that TNA’s position on IEBC was neutral, Oloo said the party was ready to dialogue with CORD and other stakeholders on a constitutional way that will resolve the current impasse.
CORD protestors on Monday held the fourth demonstration in different parts of the country to push IEBC commissioners out.
The party wants the commissioners out over alleged corruption and mismanagement of elections in the country.
The party has vowed to sustain the same push until IEBC commissioners leave office.
