NAIROBI, Kenya, May 3 – Police officers in Kasarani on Tuesday lobbed teargas to disperse hundreds of boda boda riders who had barricaded the Thika Superhighway at Roysambu, protesting the killing of their colleagues.

The riders from Kahawa West complained that three of their colleagues had been killed over the past month, with the latest on Sunday at dawn.

“The suspects have been stealing and killing our members… they are armed, in fact they are our customers,” an official of the operators’ lobby said.

A detective privy to investigations into the deaths told Capital FM News three suspects had been arrested during a nightlong operation linked to the latest killing.

The protests led to a major traffic snarl up on the busy highway which has affected Kamiti Road.

Calm was restored late on Tuesday afternoon
