KISUMU, Kenya, May 16 – Several ODM supporters in Kisumu sustained injures after police broke up a weekly demonstration to eject Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission officers.

The demonstrators converged at Kondele in the morning and started marching along Jomo Kenyatta Highway.

They went round Oginga Odinga Street before embarking on an effort to storm the local IEBC offices to present their petition.

Police armed with teargas blocked the demonstrators who were being led by Kisumu East MP Shakeel Shabbir and lobbed teargas.

Several people were caught up in the mix and were beaten by the police leaving others with tissue wounds.

Those injured includes two Kisumu County Assembly nominated female MCAs and a number of party supporters.

Police managed to drive the protesters out of the city.
