, NAIROBI, Kenya, May 30 – Police have circulated the photos and names of eight wanted criminals terrorising the public within the coastal region.

This follows the arrest of four people suspected to have been involved in Sunday’s killing of three Nyumba Kumi officials in Diani, Kwale.

  • They further gave a warning to Kenyans living near the Kenya Somalia border to be extra vigilant as there are indications that some terrorists fleeing from AMISOM action in Somalia could be making attempts to infiltrate into the country and stage attacks during the month of Ramadhan.

A statement from the Inspector General’s office pointed out that the four were arrested following a police operation targeting people linked to violent crimes in the region.

“In the early hours of Sunday 29th May 2016 in Bongwe area within Msambweni Division in Kwale County, three community leaders namely Mohamed Juma Mwanguzo, Juma Omar Mwanyota, and Hassan Debe were murdered by persons suspected to be members of a known criminal gang which the police have been on their trail for some time,” it pointed out.

Coast Region Police Commander Francis Wanjohi said that the three Nyumba Kumi officials were killed by suspected Al-Shabaab returnees.

“Several police operations have been mounted in the recent few weeks targeting persons linked to violent crime in the general South Coast region, which led to the arrest of the following persons; Nassor Juma Mwahaga, Abdalla Jagfari Mwavyema, Athman Rama Mwanyonje and Omar Juma Dzinza.”

According to the statement, the eight others are still on the run and are being sought by the police.

The police requested the public to report to the nearest police station should they see or have any information regarding the individuals.
