NAIROBI, Kenya, May 10- At least one person was killed on Tuesday afternoon when a matatu veered off the road and rammed into a bakery on Moi Avenue.
Nairobi Traffic Police Commandant Leonard Katana confirmed that five people were seriously injured during the accident whose cause is yet to be established.
“We lost one person and then the driver and 2 passengers were seriously injured,” Katana told Capital News.
Three pedestrians were also seriously injured according to police.
Witnesses have told police the matatu veered off the road and headed straight into the eatery, hitting the five people as others scampered for safety.
Police have detained the driver who will face charges in court once investigations are concluded.
Katana has urged drivers, mostly those driving Public Service Vehicle to be careful more so during this rainy season.
“They should consider the rest of the motorists,” he said.
Traffic police say six other people were killed in separate road accidents mainly pedestrians knocked down in various parts of the city since Tuesday morning.
