NAIROBI, Kenya, May 19 – One person died on Wednesday night in Murang’a County after a wall collapsed on him due to the ongoing heavy downpour in various parts of the country.

National Disaster Management Unit Communication Officer Pius Masai said several vehicles were also damaged during the incident.

Masai urged property owners to check the stability of their walls and houses more so during this rainy season, to avoid loss of life and destruction of property.

“We also appeal to members of the public to be cautious when approaching areas with long, high walls,” Masai appealed.

He is also calling on members of the public to report to relevant authorities of any structure that appears or is suspected to be dangerous for speedy safety measures to be taken.

Similar incidents have occurred in Nairobi, with latest killing four people after a perimeter wall collapsed on Lenana Road.

The April 29 incident occurred near the Department of Defence headquarters.
