NAIROBI, Kenya, May 3 – A requiem mass for former First Lady Lucy Kibaki is due to be held on Wednesday at the Consolata Shrine in Nairobi from 9.30am to 1pm.

Interior Permanent Secretary Karanja Kibicho said there will be no public viewing of the body.

He told the public that they can don yellow ribbons in her honour until she is buried on Saturday in Othaya.

“Fellow Kenyans, we are reminded that Mama Lucy loved bright colours. Therefore, the Kibaki family has identified the yellow ribbon as a symbol of the celebration of Mama Lucy,” said Kibicho.

“Members of the public who wish to stand by the roadside as the convoy meanders through the road to pay their last respects are welcome to do so,” stated Kibicho.

“The official convoy carrying Mama Lucy Kibaki’s body will leave the Lee Funeral home at 9am. From there, the procession will take Argwings Kodhek Road, onto Valley Road, Kenyatta Avenue to join Uhuru Highway, Chiromo Road and then enter the Consolata Shrine.

An inter-denominational funeral service will be held at the Othaya Approved School on Saturday, May 7.

“Thereafter, the Kibaki Family and invited guests will have a private burial ceremony at their home in Othaya, where Mama Lucy Kibaki will be laid to rest.”

The public can also sign condolence books at Harambee House, Parliament, KICC, The Consolata Shrine in Westlands, All missions abroad, Former President Kibaki’s official office in Nyali, The Holy Family Basilica and all 47 county headquarters.
