NAIROBI, Kenya, May 15 – Mukurweini lawmaker Kabando wa Kabando now says Parliament will continuously push for reforms in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Kabando who is in Jubilee party says Parliament has the powers to overhaul the IEBC, adding that change in the commission is inevitable especially after the Chickengate scandal.

“Chickengate-laden IEBC and its notoriously ‘Corded’ secretariat must exit. We’ll constitutionally, through Parliament, wholly restructure IEBC,” Kabando said on Sunday.

His statement follows a continued push by CORD to have the IEBC commissioners sent home, which has been accompanied by a series of demonstrations.

Kabando however says Jubilee will not engage in a political exchange to defend IEBC just to oppose CORD, adding that the latter’s approach will not bring the required reforms in the commission.

“Jubilee can’t and won’t defend IEBC simply because our rivals have opposed it,” he added, “Let Raila stop deceiving us when we know they mean contrary to their desperate “Mondays showbiz”! Spare us the violence, chicanery and diatribe.”

Kabando revealed that the process of reforming IECB through the Parliament route has already began and will kick off soon at the Floor of the House. “Process already on. Plus secretariat must precede exodus.”

If the motion to send IEBC commissioners comes to parliament through Jubilee legislatures as Kabando suggests, it will be interesting to see how things turn, considering CORD continued complain that it opted to demonstrate since the tyranny of numbers in parliament has been a disadvantage to them.
