NAIROBI, Kenya, May 31 – President Uhuru Kenyatta has now invited CORD leaders Raila Odinga and Moses Wetangula to Nakuru for the Madaraka Day celebrations on Wednesday.

President Kenyatta extended the invitation to the Opposition leaders during a meeting at State House, Nairobi Tuesday afternoon, which was also attended by Deputy President William Ruto.

Odinga and Wetangula had been invited for a State luncheon to honour visiting South Korean President Park Geun-hye after which they held the talks

There was no immediate statement from the CORD leadership whether they would honour the invitation which comes at a time when they were planning to hold a rally at Uhuru Park.

The High Court on Tuesday ruled that CORD had a right to hold its political rally at Uhuru Park on condition that they maintained law and order.

Justice George Odunga ruled that the proper procedures were followed in acquiring the grounds hence no parallel meeting should be held there.

The ruling was made in a case filed by CORD in which it sought orders to use the grounds after the National Security Advisory Committee warned against granting them permission “for security reasons.”

They argued that the County Government of Nairobi which is the custodian of the park has already approved its use yet police insist they cannot occupy it due to security reasons.
