NAIROBI, Kenya, May 4 – Rescue operations at the collapsed building in Huruma were set to continue Wednesday as three more bodies were pulled out of the rubble, bringing the number of those dead so far to 26.
According to Nairobi Police Boss Japheth Koome, the bodies were pulled out of the building Tuesday night in the operation which also saw nine rabbits rescued.
Koome says the search was still on but slow as the teams were now on the fourth floor, but stressed it was being done professionally to ensure no life is lost.
“Rescue work is ongoing this morning. Yesterday, we got three more bodies and recovered nine rabbits from the debris. The work is being done by professionals and we will make sure that we get anyone who is alive out,” he stated.
At least 90 people were listed as still missing.
On Tuesday, there were celebrations at the site, after a six month old girl was rescued alive from the rubble, four days after the incident occurred.
Speaking to the press at the Starehe CDF Hall following their re-union, the father of the baby, Ralson Wasike, described it as a miracle that Dealeryn Wasike who has since been discharged from hospital, survived the tragedy.

According to Koome, Dealeryn was found emaciated on the first floor of the building at around 4am and rushed to the Kenyatta National Hospital.
A Nairobi court was in the meantime due to rule on Wednesday whether to release five people arrested over the building’s collapse on bail.
State Prosecutor Duncan Ondimu told the court that investigations ought to be completed in 21 days in order to decide whether to prefer murder or manslaughter charges.
He urged the court to remand the suspects at an unknown police station for their safety due to anger from members of the public.
But the suspects through their advocates opposed the application arguing that bail is a constitutional right and have no intention of absconding court proceedings.
