MACHAKOS, Kenya, May 7 – Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua has decried the high levels of unemployment among the youth which he termed a time bomb.

Mutua said county and national governments should create a viable environment for the youth to enable them live decent lives by providing them with jobs and business opportunities.

The County boss said he will host the first Machakos Youth Convention to engage the youth on strategies for economic, business and political programs that will empower them.

Mutua said that despite the youth forming the bulk of the country’s population, they are often ignored in matters relating to economic stability and community empowerment.

“They are placed in the lowest ladders even in decision making processes,” said Mutua.

He decried the high levels of unemployment among the youth despite them being talented and hardworking.

Mutua, who spoke through his Press Secretary and Communications Director, Mutinda Mwanzia, said the youth should not have to wait until they are old to get jobs, or to afford a decent home or even have progress in their lives.

He said the Convention will be held at the Machakos People’s park on Friday, May 13 in the spirit of Maendeleo Chap Chap which places the plight of the youth and wananchi first.
.
“To this end, I am inviting all youth from Machakos and Kenya at large to this important meeting,” said Mutua.

He said the youth will also benefit from tips on how they can benefit from government and other tenders and also discuss their place in leadership.

Mutua said the youth will also benefit from advice from youth mentors who have been a success in life and their professions or businesses.
