BUNGOMA, Kenya, May 13 – A middle-aged man sustained serious injuries after falling from an airborne helicopter that was carrying the body of the late businessman Jacob Juma.

The man who is reported to be a boda-boda operator in Bungoma town was rushed to hospital with severe head injuries after he fell off the helicopter as it gained altitude.

The pilot was flying away after the public viewing of Juma’s body which had been planned in the town was called off following crowd trouble. It was then that the man was seen in video footage hanging from the helicopter.

Video footage of the incident captured by other mourners shows the helicopter descending nearer to the ground to allow the man to get off but he instead clung on even as other members of public were seen running to restrain him and pull him off the landing skids.

It is at this point that the helicopter is seen ascending and flying away as mourners shouted while signalling the pilot to land and save the man.

Thousands of Bungoma mourners had gathered at the Bungoma’s Posta Grounds to view body of the controversial businessman who was found murdered in his bullet ridden vehicle in Karen last week.

The late Juma is expected to be laid to rest at his family home in Bumula Constituency Saturday.
