NAIROBI, Kenya, May 4 – Five people arrested in connection with the Huruma building collapse have been released on bail.

The suspects are required to pay Sh500,000 in cash or deposit a Sh1 million bond with a surety of similar amount.

The magistrate says the prosecution failed to convince the court of compelling reasons why they shouldn’t be released on bail pending conclusion of investigations.

The prosecution had wanted the suspects detained for 21 days to allow police complete investigations and decide whether to charge them with murder or manslaughter.

Meanwhile, rescue operations at the collapsed building in Huruma continued Wednesday even as three more bodies were pulled out of the rubble last night, bringing the total number of those dead to 26.

According to Nairobi Police Boss Japheth Koome the bodies were pulled out of the building in the operation which also rescued nine rabbits from one of the houses.
