NAIROBI, Kenya, May 6 – Five CORD Members of Parliament have called for the formation of a commission of inquiry to investigate the murder of controversial businessman Jacob Juma.

Led by CORD Co-Principal and Senate Minority Leader Moses Wetangula, the MPs said the death of the businessman and whistleblower was ‘politically motivated’ stemming from his online criticism of corruption in government and the society.

“From our party Ford Kenya, for which Jacob Juma was a vibrant supporter, we demand a statement from government surrounding circumstances that led to his assassination; we want to be told who assassinated him and why.”

“Can an inquiry be opened to filter information from far and wide to tell Kenyans why this great Kenyan and businessman from our region has been brutally and untimely terminated in his life and his activities?” Wetangula who is also the Ford-Kenya Party leader demanded.

Wetangula has also demanded for a report on the murder of former Kabete MP George Muchai.

“We want to call on government that this inexplicable killing of leaders has to be brought to an end. In the last two years or so we have seen the assassination of the Kabete MP, in the last Parliament; we saw the death of Mugabe Were (Embakasi MP) whose death remained unresolved. If we roll back history we find the unresolved deaths of the Tom Mboya, JM Kariuki, and many other people that this country rues to even think about,” he said as he condoled with the late Juma’s family.

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale urged investigators to conduct proper investigations which should also include interviewing people who the late Juma had adversely linked to his assassination in posts on his Twitter handle.

“As a community where Juma came from, we will not sleep or tire until his killers are brought to book,” said Khalwale.

Police confirmed that Juma, in his forties, died in an attack by gunmen while he drove past Lenana School in his car at about 9.30pm.
