, NAIROBI, Kenya, May 21- Francis Atwoli was on Saturday re-elected as Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General for the next five years.
This is the fourth term Atwoli has been re –elected unopposed to lead the influential trade union giant.
Speaking after his re- election held at the Tom Mboya Labour College, Kisumu on Saturday, Atwoli says he was humbled by the move and vowed to keep the fire in fighting for the rights of workers in Kenya.
“As I was contemplating to quit, my colleagues insisted and persisted that I must have another five year term, all positions I hold both locally and internationally I have never contested these positions,” he said.
He thanked the trade unions for support throughout the three year terms he has been secretary general.
“Your support and faith in me has made me succeed in extending my leadership roles in all areas, “he said.
He promised to continue championing for the rights of workers in the country without fear or favor.
“If it means dying, but I will never betray your course and your mandate, I will never be compromised and I will never say yes to what I’m supposed to say no,” he said
“As most of you may know, since my youth I have not known any other life other than serving workers and fighting for social justice which is now an extension of my family, you are my brothers and sisters,” he stated.
Atwoli is also the Chairman of East Africa Trade Union Confederation.
