Uhuru signs Bill to extend the term of judges vetting board

NAIROBI, Kenya, President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday signed the Vetting of Judges and Magistrates (Amendment Bill) which extends the term of the vetting board.

The amended law will extend the board’s term by a further three months from March 31, 2016.

The President also signed into Law the Legal Aid Bill which will facilitate the establishment of the National Legal Aid Service.

The primary objective of the Bill is to give effect to Constitutional provisions to facilitate access to justice and social justice.

The National Legal Aid service will provide for legal aid and funding of legal aid facilitating access to justice and social justice.

President Kenyatta also signed the Mediated Version of the Mining Bill.

This Mediated version of the Bill was passed on March 15, 2016.

Its principle objective is to give effect to Constitutional provisions on natural resources and to provide for all dealings in minerals including prospecting, refining, transportation, production and transaction.
