NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 17 – President Kenyatta and other leaders have congratulated Kenya Rugby Sevens for making history by winning the Singapore Sevens World Series Cup.
In his congratulatory message President Kenyatta said: “You have made us proud, our star continues to shine as a powerhouse in sports.”
“A brilliant, confident and powerful effort has earned Team Kenya a richly deserved victory,” the President stated.
Kenya Rugby Sevens beat Fiji 30-7 to win the cup.
Other leaders who took on social media to congratulate the Kenyan team include Deputy President William Ruto.
“Hongera #Kenya7s for making history by winning their first ever World Series Cup title at the 2016 #Singapore7s,” Ruto tweeted.
Capital Group Chairman Chris Kirubi was not left behind saying: “Every good deed deserves a reward & these men deserve a reward. Thank you #Kenya7s for bringing the trophy home #Singapore7s #BrandKenya.”
Kenya Airways Chief Executive Mbuvi Ngunze said: “Congratulations to the #Kenya7s team for an excellent and resurgent performance, Kenya Airways is proud of you.”
This was Kenya’s first appearance in a circuit final since 2013.
Collins Injera whose penalty kick sent Kenya to the finals was named man of the match. He scored two tries in the final.
