NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 2 – Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula presidential bid launch was briefly interrupted after a teargas canister was lobbed at the podium.

Following the incident one person who is suspected to have hurled the canister was seriously injured after a scuffle that followed.

Wetangula who was taking an oath in the company of CORD co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka and other leaders was forced to leave the stadium hurriedly and returned later when calm was restored.

The man who was injured was rushed to hospital but police restored calm while the ceremony resumed amid high tension.

“Police officers intervened after things turned chaotic,” a journalist covering the event told Capital News.

CORD leader Raila Odinga did not attend the launch that was being hosted at the historic Muliro Gardens in Kakamega County.
