NAIROBI, Kenya Apr 10 – Two former Chase Bank top officials were on Saturday questioned by police in the ongoing investigations on financial irregularities that brought it down.

Those questioned include the bank’s former chairman Zafrullah Khan and Group Managing Director Duncan Kabui who resigned a day before the bank was placed under receivership, in the wake of a Sh792 million loss reported last week.

“The two have been questioned after presenting themselves at the CID headquarters,” a senior police officer said, a day after Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet ordered them to present themselves to the police or risk arrests.

They include Managing Director Munir Mohammed, Executive Director Boniface Biko, Chief Credit Officer George Jaba, ICT Director Mohammed Abdalla, acting Chief Finance Officer Wycliff Kivunira and the bank’s Chief Finance Officer Chris Kisire.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has said he fully supports Central Bank of Kenya Governor Patrick Njoroge’s efforts to streamline the banking sector and urged it to ensure depositors’ funds are well protected.
