NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 5 – Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has been accused of forging documents in a case in which he is contesting education qualifications of Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu.
This is after the MP filed in court a document from the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) verifying that he did not sit for his CPE in 1975 at Mbagathi Primary school as alleged by Kabogo.
According to the document, the CPE examination code for the said primary school in 1975 was 41004 and not 52019 which belonged to Chemasingi Primary School.
“Records in the KNEC database indicate that in 1975 CPE examination code for Mbagathi was not what appears in the purported copy of certificate,” he states.
The controversial legislator in response to Kabogo’s case has also clarified that he sat for his CPE in 1977 at Munro Primary School.
Waititu has further filed KNEC certificates showing that he sat for his KJSE and O levels at Ruiru and Dagoretti High School respectively.
Before he joined Punjab University in 1985, Waititu obtained an A level certificate from the Kenya Polytechnic where he studied for about two years.
The legislator has gone on to explain that he is also known as Clifford and used the name at different times while he studied.
Samuel Mungai Mucheru has filed an affidavit swearing that he was Chairman of Kenya African Students Association in all of India and was in Punjab University with Waititu where both pursued Bachelor of Commerce.
When the case came up for mention before Judge Joseph Onguto, Kabogo through lawyer Issa Mansur asked for two weeks to put his case in order.
The prayer was granted and parties were directed to return to court on April 19.
The 51 year-old MP has since declared interest in the gubernatorial seat and is seen as one that would easily oust Kabogo.
In his suit papers, Kabogo says that residents and voters of Kabete Constituency are entitled to be represented by persons who adhere to and comply with the principles of leadership and integrity.
The governor insists that Waititu is not qualified to hold public office over his education qualifications.
In the petition, Kabogo states that Waititu was in 1985 admitted at a University in India to undertake a three years degree course where he graduated on 19 June 1988 and was awarded a diploma by Punjab University, Chandigarh.
But Waititu has produced a copy of a degree certificate awarded to him from the said University in 1985.
Waititu was elected on May 4 2015 as Kabete MP on a JAP ticket following the death of George Muchai who was shot and killed along Kenyatta Avenue Nairobi on February 7.
