NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 25 – Police officers were deployed to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) headquarters at Anniversary Towers in Nairobi following plans by CORD leaders and supporters to storm there Monday over the Okoa Kenya signatures.
Nairobi Police chief Japheth Koome told Capital FM News that his officers have strict instructions not to allow protesters at the commission, and will use any means possible to maintain the law.
He is urging organisers of the protest to cancel it and instead seek an alternative solution to their grievances.
“Why are they going there?” he posed. “They should instead seek alternative channels to air their grievances and not disrupt activities in town.”
The IEBC in the meantime had told CORD that it will not take orders from anybody.

In a statement, IEBC Communications and Public Affairs Manager Andrew Limo asked CORD to observe the law which also declares it independent of external interference.
He stated that the Commission will not be manipulated or intimidated by CORD which is demanding to have its Okoa Kenya signatures verified.
According to Limo, the planned demonstration will disrupt its work and interfere with ongoing preparations for next year’s general election.
