NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 29 – The High Court has barred CORD leaders and their supporters from storming the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) offices to force the commissioners out.
The order was granted by High Court judge Isaac Lenaola who ruled it will remain in force until a case filed by five Jubilee MPs is heard and determined.
The petition was filed by MPs Ferdinand Waititu, Moses Kuria, Dennis Waweru, Kimani Ichung’wah and Alice Ng’ang’a who want the Opposition leaders, their supporters and agents restrained from storming the IEBC offices.
The Jubilee politicians also want CORD stopped from intimidating the commissioners in any manner pending the hearing and determination of the case.
The matter is set to be argued on Thursday next week when CORD will give its response.
The CORD coalition has been calling for peaceful demonstrations to force IEBC Chairman and Commissioners from office.
In the suit, the Attorney-General, Raila Odinga, Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula, and their respective parties ODM, Wiper, and Ford-Kenya have been named as parties.
On Tuesday, CORD said it intends to storm the offices of the electoral commission every successive Monday from May 2 should the IEBC Commissioners remain in office.

The petitioners however described it as a threat in violation of the Constitution to the extent that it seeks to force the IEBC commissioners to leave office prematurely; before their term in office expires.
