The attackers, said to have suffered heavy casualty during the Sunday morning incident, engaged officers in a gunfight at Diff police camp before they sped off in the station’s Land cruiser which they used to ferry the injured.
“They met stiff resistance but they managed to snatch the camp’s land cruiser to take their casualty,” Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet said, adding that three officers had sustained slight injuries.
“We are pursuing those terrorists,” he said.
The military was reported to have joined in the pursuit for the attackers who crossed over the border to Somalia.
Al Shabaab militants have often launched attacks at the border areas, targeting security forces since Kenya deployed its military to fight AL Shabaab terrorists inside Somalia.
