NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 29 – Four people were on Friday killed after a perimeter wall collapsed on Lenana Road.

The incident occurred near the Department of Defence headquarters and the Russian Embassy.

Kilimani Police chief Peter Kattam said the four may have been sheltering when the wall went down, killing them on the spot.

The road was temporarily blocked but police said they were working to clear it.

The heavy downpour which started on Thursday has resulted to flooding on highways within the city resulting to major traffic snarl ups.

Some of the roads affected on Friday within the city according to the Kenya Red cross included Dennis Pritt road, Bunyala, Commercial Street and Uhuru Highway.

Other than Nairobi, the rains have caused damage in several other areas within the country including a landslide in Nyeri and Muranga County.

“Landslide reported along Kaharati – Kangari road at Mariira, Muranga County. KRCS response team has been activated to respond,” Kenya Red Cross said through its Twitter handle.

It was not established whether they were injuries in both incidents.

Though millions of shillings have been allocated by both the National and County Governments to improve the drainage sector, the problem has persisted in almost in all rainy seasons within Nairobi and other parts of the country.
