Proud of you my love, Uhuru tells First Lady

NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 6 – They captured the imagination of Kenyans when she ran across the finish line and straight into his arms. Three years later, even miles apart, President Uhuru Kenyatta and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta set the twitter-sphere abuzz with another public display of affection during the third edition of the First Lady’s Half Marathon.

“Congratulations my love and @FirstLadyKenya, I just watched you cross the finish line on my online live stream. I am proud of you #BeyondZero,” President Kenyatta tweeted from Ghana where he was attending their 59^th Independence Day anniversary celebrations.

The affectionate gestures didn’t end there as a special message from President Kenyatta to, “Marg,” was broadcast to the marathon participants. “To you Marg congratulations (for) once again completing another successful run.”

“That was a surprise,” the First Lady commented when she took to the podium to deliver her speech and reveal that the accolades were deserved as she’d made good on her promise to raise sufficient funds to equip all 47 counties with mobile clinics.

“Today we have collectively managed to raise money to buy fully stocked mobile clinics for the remaining 11 counties,” she announced.

She then went ahead to set a new target; the refurbishment of health centres around the country and construction of state of the art health facilities.

“We don’t have to stop ladies and gentlemen because runners don’t just aim to win, they aim to break records,” she rallied.

The First Lady has received numerous accolades for her effort to achieve, “Beyond Zero,” infant and maternal mortality including from US President Barack Obama who during his July 2015 visit to Kenya encouraged President Kenyatta to join his wife out on the track.

And while he may have been physically absent for the run on Sunday, Deputy President William Ruto defended, he did make the effort to be remotely present.
