NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 31 – Jubilee Coalition MPs have hailed President Uhuru Kenyatta’s third State of the Nation Address saying he had effectively highlighted his government’s successes and his plans for the future.

Senate Deputy Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen (Elgeyo Marakwet) and Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau described the speech as a heroic address that urged Kenyans to unite against the challenges facing the country and steering clear of divisive politics.

While delivering his State of the Nation Address, President Kenyatta said the unwritten contracts of nationalism will ensure the State of Kenya nation remains unchallenged.

He intimated plans to extend the SGR to Naivasha, and eventually to the port of Kisumu, then the border town of Malaba which he says is aimed at opening up the country to increased domestic and regional trade.

On roads, Kenyatta said that the Jubilee government had in the last three years tarmacked approximately 3,000 kilometres with rehabilitation of existing roads still underway.

He also announced the completion of two additional shipping berths at Kilindini which will in turn doubled total handling capacity to 1.6 million twenty-foot containers per year.

MPs Johnson Sakaja (Nominated MP), Ndung’u Gethenji (Tetu) and Ferdinand Waititu (Kabete) said the President addressed the major issues affecting Kenyans, especially on women and youth, which is a key agenda of the Jubilee manifesto.

The MPs said leaders should heed the President’s call to uphold national cohesion by making responsible utterances while addressing the public.

Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung’aro lauded the President, saying he highlighted his government’s efforts to grow Kenya economically specifically mentioned title deeds and rural electrification as good steps but urged the government to invest more on improving the country’s road network.

National Assembly Deputy Minority Leader Jakoyo Midiwo (Gem), Timothy Bosire (Kitutu Masaba) and Minority Deputy Whip Chris Wamalwa (Kiminini) said while the government has improved on security and investment in education, it still has a lot to do in correcting economic pilferage.

In his address, President Kenyatta defended the Jubilee Administration’s third year, outlining the positive economic figures and his support for devolution.

President Kenyatta told the House that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is expected to grow by 6 percent in the next 12 months from 5.8 percent achieved in 2015.

On agriculture, the Head of State noted that he has appointed a task-force to address challenges facing the ailing coffee, tea and sugar sectors.
