NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 18 – Capital Group Chairman Chris Kirubi has been appointed the Brand Kenya Board Chairman in a list of appointments that were gazetted on Friday and that also include the appointment of former Police Chief Hussein Ali as Chairperson of the NGO Co-ordination Board.

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s appointment of Dr Kirubi is for a period of three years and follows his receipt of the Grand Medal Award from Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama for his efforts at improving bi-lateral relations between the two nations.

He is also a recipient of the French Legion of Honour Award from similarly fostering cultural understanding between the two nations.

“I have been flying the brand Kenya flag high in everything I do. That is why I always insist that we buy Kenyan and trumpet the success stories coming out of Kenya around the world because if we don’t buy into brand Kenya who will?”

Dr Kirubi who also Chairs Haco Tiger Brands, Nairobi Bottlers Limited and has holdings in Centum Investment Company as well as holding the rights to the DHL franchise in Kenya was also elected Treasurer of the African Union Foundation in February last year.

Other than being an avid proponent of “buy Kenyan, build Kenya,” Dr Kirubi is also a youth mentor and regularly interacts with youth from all walks of life by honouring invitations to give talks at schools and online through the #AskKirubi platform.

Other notable appointments gazetted on Friday include that of former Secretary to the Cabinet Francis Kimemia as Chairperson of the Industrial and Commercial Development Corporation with former Minister Henry Kosgey appointed as the Chairperson of the Tourism Fund.

KCB Chief Executive Officer Joshua Oigara has been appointed Chairperson of the Energy Regulatory Commission and former Assistant Minister Francis Baya as Chairperson of the Kenya Literature Bureau.

Ronald Osumba who was Peter Kenneth’s running mate in the race for the Presidency in the last General Election has been appointed Chairperson of the Youth Advisory Board while cross-country legend Paul Tergat has been appointed Chairperson of the Kenya Academy of Sports Council.

Prior to his appointment to the NGO Co-ordination Board, Ali was chairman of the Postal Corporation of Kenya.

He is now tasked with reigning in rouge NGOs after it emerged that a number were not properly registered and may have been used to funnel funds to terrorist groups.
