In her statement on May 9, 2012, Daisy said she was on her way home when she was summoned to the Embu Provincial offices by two officers who later raped her several times and pierced her caesarean wound/FILE
NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 30 – One of the officers alleged to have gang-raped 19 year old Daisy Karimi (#JusticeForDaisy) recorded a statement with police in 2012 saying he instead watched as his senior colleague raped her inside a pick-up truck parked at the Embu Provincial Commissioner’s compound, where the Embu Police Station is located.
Richard Ouma Arondo who is alleged to have imprinted his name on the stomach and thigh of Daisy after raping her (for the second time after the initial rape case collapsed in 2014), told police that he was on duty on the night of April 12, 2012 when his seniors ordered him and a colleague to call a lady (Daisy) who was walking on the main road by the police station.
In his statement to the police on May 11, 2012 Ouma said Ahmed Ali Mayo (his senior) threatened to kill him and Daisy if they ever uttered a single word of what transpired that night.
When we asked the lady to come; “she agreed and when she sat at the guard room and one APC Mayo came and asked her who she was, the lady did not answer but Mayo called the lady and told her to follow him they stayed for about 30 minutes and there I decided to go and check what was happening.
As he followed them to the direction they had taken, Ouma said that Mayo threatened to kill him and Daisy if they defied any orders he gave.
“You will do as I tell you with this lady and do not forget I am Waria (Somali) and Waria do no play with people and if then you play with me, I will kill you because you are just a mere recruit,” Ouma wrote in his statement.
“He then turned to the lady and asked her ‘umesikia? (Have you heard?). Then he told if you think this are lies, he cooked (sic) the gun G3 and that is when he ordered us to walk towards a shell pick up in front of death and birth registration offices and he opened the door of the pickup he then told me if I say what I will see hear, he will kill me and things will end there, for you have not even been sworn.”
Ouma alleged that Mayo raped Daisy as he watched.
