NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 7 – Political Scientist Mutahi Ngunyi has been questioned by EACC detectives over allegations that he benefited from the Sh791 million NYS rip-off.
An EACC official says Ngunyi was summoned to record a statement over the allegations contained in an affidavit filed in court by businesswoman Josephine Kabura in whose accounts the money was paid.
He is among several individuals named in the affidavit as having benefited from the multimillion scandal that is under investigation.
Those questioned so far over the matter include former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Ann Waiguru who was named in the affidavit as the principal architect.
Waiguru denies the allegations, and has instead accused unnamed people of orchestrating a scheme to tarnish her name after the EACC initially cleared her.
The commission however, clarified that it only cleared her of other matters and not the Sh791 million.
Waiguru recently wrote to the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet seeking protection, saying her life was in danger after filing an affidavit to counter accusations raised by Kabura, and in which she named powerful Jubilee politicians including National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale and Senator Kipchumba Murkomen.
Duale and Murkomen have also denied any role in the NYS scandal and are among those lined up for questioning by the EACC.
