IEBC says preparations on course for Malindi, Kericho mini-polls

NAIROBI, Kenya Mar 4 – The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) says preparations are on course for the Malindi Constituency and Kericho Senatorial by-elections slated for Monday.

In a statement, the Commission said it had appointed Moses Ledama Sunkuli to be the Kericho County Returning officer while Stephen Kitsao Karani will oversee the poll in Malindi.

The official campaign period ends on Saturday at 6pm.

A total of 3,214 election officials will be deployed in Kericho and 550 in Malindi adding that they will finalize the training of election on Saturday.

The Kericho Senate contest has attracted six candidates including JAP’s Aaron Cheruiyot and KANU’s Paul Sang who will be hoping that majority of the area’s 290,947 registered voters will elect of one them to represent them in the Senate until August 2017.

According to IEBC, Kericho County has 623 polling stations across 30 County Assembly Wards while Malindi Constituency has 100 polling stations in 5 County Assembly Wards.
