NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 22 – The recruitment of 10,000 new police constables will kick off on April 4, 2016.

The exercise which will be overseen by Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet will be carried out in 331 centres in 290 constituencies.

The Chairman of the National Police Service Commission Johnstone Kavuludi said they have taken stringent measures to ensure the exercise is a success.

“The commission is carrying out this recruitment under the Recruitment Regulation Act 2015. We have ensured compliance with those regulations,” Kavuludi stated. “And the urgency to undertake this process cannot be over emphasised as we are well aware of the important role of security organs.”

Kavuludi also urged those who will be participating in the exercise to take the service with the seriousness it needs and not just as any job.

“We are looking for young men and women who are willing to dedicate their lives in a service that calls for discipline, has got risks and challenges,” stated Kavuludi adding that, “for persons who may be looking for a job that is soft, police work may not be for them.”

Boinnet seconded Kavuludi’s statement, saying those who take part in the recruitment must know what they are signing themselves up for.

“Police work is primarily that of offering services of public safety and security which comes with its risks.”

IG Boinnet was also quick to state that they will not tolerate any unethical behaviour during the recruitment adding that only those accredited by him will oversee the exercise.

“No police officer apart from those appointed by the IG to oversee this year’s recruitment shall be allowed within the precincts of the recruiting centres,” said Boinnet.

“In addition any other person or institution that wants to witness or observe the exercise must also seek and obtain accreditation.”
