Emerging markets pose threat to Africa’s elephants, rhinos

In May this year Nyamu is planning on walking for 3,400 kilometres in 130 days to raise awareness about elephant conservation. So far he has done 5,600 kilometres in different countries. This year’s walk will be done within the 3 east African states i.e. Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania in a move aimed at bringing the 3 countries together to address wildlife crimes.

“I’m preparing for a walk from Nairobi, Namanga, Moshi all the way to Dar es Salaam then Uganda. The walk is taking place in the three countries since they have been classified as the main source of ivory and highly targeted by poachers.”

Nyamu also highlights that he intends to involve the wildlife services of the three countries and their head of states on the need to come up with an integrated poaching mechanism.

” We will use this mechanisms to educate the communities especially those next to cross border areas like the Mara, Serengeti, Tsavo-Mkomanzi where poaching is rife.”

He adds “Tanzania will not be safe if Kenya is not safe, the same applies for Uganda. So we need to put in place this mechanisms and show the world that how united we are in war against wildlife crimes.”

He is calling on all Kenyans to join in and support the initiative to safeguard our wildlife.
