Boost for Jubilee as 2 Malindi candidates drop out

NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 4 – As the campaigns for the Malindi Parliamentary seat enters the home stretch, the Jubilee Party candidate Philip Charo received a big boost when two candidates dropped from the race to support him.

The candidates Peter Ponda of Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU) and Fuad Kombe of Federal Party of Kenya said they have resolved to drop from the race to support the Jubilee candidate.

“We have decided to drop our candidature in support of our brother, Philip Charo because it is only the Jubilee Party that can solve the problems facing us at the Coast,” said Ponda.

Speaking at Mazuruni during a campaign rally presided over by Deputy President William Ruto, Kombe said they were optimistic that the Jubilee candidate will carry the day in Monday’s by-election.

The Deputy President William Ruto urged residents in the region not to be misled by the Opposition that it would solve land problems at the Coast.

The Deputy President was accompanied by National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale, MPs Mustaffa Idd (Kilifi South), Mwashetani Khatib (Lunga Lunga), Gideon Mungaro (Kilifi North), Ibrahim Sane (Garsen), Peter Shehe (Ganze), Emma Mbura (nominated) and Kwale Woman Representative Zeinab Chidzuga.

Addressing campaign rallies in Lango Baya, Kakuyuni and Mazurini open grounds, he stressed that the Jubilee administration has answers to the thorny issue of land in the region.

“You should not be misled by the Opposition that it will solve the land problems in this region,” he said.

He also hit out at former Prime Minister Raila Odinga saying he failed to solve the problems of land at the Coast during his five-year tenure in Government.

“There is nothing the Opposition can do for you as much as the problem of land is concerned. It is only Jubilee that can solve this problem of land.”

He said during the last two years in power, the Jubilee administration has issued more than 300,000 title deeds and yet no a single title deed was processed when James Orengo, was Minister for Lands.
