NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 25 – Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has urged Kenyans to remain vigilant over the Easter holiday saying the threat of terror remains real.
Boinnet in a statement issued on Thursday said Kenyans should share any suspicious activity or person using the toll free lines 999 or 112.
He specifically urged members of public to report any luggage left unattended in public and open spaces.
“This is a constant reminder that the threat we face as a country is global in nature and not restricted to our region,” Boinnet cautioned.
The police boss has also urged hotel owners to keep proper records of their guests.
“In particular, we urge the members of public to remain vigilant and exercise extra alertness around religious establishments, social joints or any public place patronized in big numbers,” he said.
Police manning critical national infrastructure have been directed to be on high alert to avert any threat to security that may emerge.
Kenya will be commemorating the 1st anniversary of the Garissa University College terror attack that claimed 148 lives on April 2.
Terror, posed by Somalia based Al-Shabaab militia remains a major threat in the country despite the security gains made so far.
