, NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 16 – Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) operating under AMISOM on Wednesday foiled a planned terrorist attack near the Somali National Army camp in Afmadhow, in lower Juba region killing 19 of the militants.

KDF spokesperson David Obonyo says the terrorists had approached the Somali camp which is near another one occupied by AMISOM during the 1am incident.

“The Al-Shabaab attempted to fight back but were swiftly repulsed by the KDF soldiers on patrol and those at the camp,” he stated.

The militants were identified by some KDF soldiers on patrol, where they engaged them in fierce gun battle.

Obonyo says 19 militias were killed in the process; one technical vehicle destroyed and 10 AK-47 rifles and three Rocket Propelled Grenades recovered.
