The Sunday morning incident occurred Sarira, in Lacta Belt north of Ras Kiamboni.
“The KDF soldiers pursued them following information of an intended probe attack,” Military Spokesman Col David Obonyo said in a statement. They also recovered 8 AK47 rifles, 2 PKM machines guns, 2 Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPOG) and assorted ammunition.
Obonyo said the assault “was a success because KDF soldiers did not suffer any fatality.”
During an earlier attack on Saturday night, 21 Al Shabaab terrorists were killed as they laid an ambush on the security forces in Afmadhow, Lower Juba region where two KDF soldiers were also killed.
“Following the incident, 21 Al Shabaab militants were killed,” he said, “regrettably, KDF suffered two fatalities”.
Obonyo said 19 AK 47 rifles and 3 Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPG) were recovered during the confrontation that also left two soldiers wounded.
“During the fierce engagement, the overpowered Al Shabaab militants resulted to the use of improvised Explosive Devices (IED), damaging one vehicle,” Obonyo said in a statement.
AMISOM forces have lately intensified the war on Al Shabaab in Somalia after the January attack on Kenyan forces that left many soldiers dead in El Adde.
