Endebess MP Robert Pukose complained about the hygiene standard of the food served to lawmakers after he saw a supplier delivering chicken to Parliament using a motorcycle.
“Yesterday morning somebody delivered chicken for the Honourable Members, in a motorcycle from suspicious grounds. (The footage) is circulating within the social media and it is not good. Mr Speaker, I am raising a very serious issue that pertains to the health of the Honourable Members in this House.”
“Mr Speaker when meat is delivered using a motorcycle and is wrapped in polythene to the National Assembly,” said the MP who is also a trained surgeon and a medical doctor by profession.
National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi sparked comedy in the House when he told off Pukose who is also a member of the House Catering and Health Club Committee.
“Honourable Pukose, surely there are matters that belong to other forums, this is the Plenary of the National Assembly, we cannot be here always talking about food,” Muturi stated.
MPs sparked public outrage in December after it emerged that some of them had travelled to Ethiopia, the Netherlands and India in a bid to improve eating services.
During the debate last year, Majority Leader Aden Duale asked Muturi, who chairs the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) to intervene as the ‘food, tea and snacks being served at the Parliament Restaurant taste like they are not fresh’.
