NAIROBI, Kenya, February 25 – Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has told off critics of his foreign trips saying they were meant to woo investors and help transform the county.

Mutua dismissed claims that he has abdicated his responsibilities and has not been in office for over a week adding that those engaging in such empty and cheap propaganda were known enemies of development.

He stated that they were being used by external forces to derail the Maendeleo Chap Chap movement and its development agenda.

”My attention has been drawn to reckless statements by known busy bodies casting aspersions on my whereabouts. I wish to request the people of Machakos to ignore such statements and treat them with the contempt they deserve,” he said.

Deputy Governor Bernard Kiala and Ndalani Ward MCA Stephen Muthuka questioned Mutua’s absence with Muthuka writing to the county assembly speaker Bernard Mungata over the whereabouts of the governor.

But in a press statement issued by his Press Secretary and Communications Director Mutinda Mwanzia, the Governor said he has been on an official, normal and scheduled Government trip to lure investors into Machakos to fast track the Machakos New City and Investment program.

The Governor held meetings with East African Investors in Tanzania and is currently in Dubai meeting Middle East investors and Recruitment Agencies to find direct jobs for Machakos youths and bag investors.

He also met former Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete at the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) headquarters in Dar Es Salaam.

Speaking during the meeting, Mutua said the unemployment rate among the youth was very high and action needed to be taken on the issue.

”That is why I have gone out of my way to get investors to set up their factories and other investments in Machakos and offer jobs to our youth. This is the only sure way of creating employment, wealth and eventual poverty reduction,” he said.

The Governor said he was also available on phone and other platforms and has been consulting and giving guidance on a very regular basis.

Mutua pointed out that he was focussing on developing Machakos and bringing prosperity to its people and will not engage in political sideshows meant to derail the Maendeleo Chap Chap movement ideology.

“These merchants of politics of poverty will not succeed. Machakos people are enlightened enough to distinguish between our politics of development and their empty politics of poverty,” he stated.
