NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 26 – Isaac Okero is the new Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President following national elections held on Thursday.

Okero garnered 1,581 votes ahead of Aggrey Mwamu who had 1,378 votes followed by Allen Waiyaki who came in third with 1,371 votes.

Both Mwamu and Waiyaki conceded defeat and congratulated Okero who takes over from Eric Mutua.

“I now concede that we lost this great battle. I want to thank all those who supported me and campaigned for me. Yours was not in vain. I congratulate the winner and let the Law Society of Kenya move on. Thank you very much my dear friends,” Mwamu said in a statement following release of the results.

About 7,000 lawyers across the country went to the polls to elect new officials in 25 court premises serving as polling centres across the country.

In the meantime, the Kisumu branch polls started one hour late with 148 advocates expected to cast their votes.

Tallying took place at the LSK offices in Nairobi from 6pm Thursday evening.
