NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 24 – “I have been vindicated,” were the first words a visibly elated Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter uttered when he turned up for his news conference at Parliament Buildings, to react to an affidavit sworn by former Devolution CS Anne Waiguru where she mentions House Leaders Aden Duale and Kipchumba Murkomen as among people who tried to influence payments at the National Youth Service.

Keter who was accompanied by Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi demanded that MP Duale (Garissa Township) and Senator Murkomen (Elgeyo-Marakwet) resign their House leadership roles following revelations in the affidavit that implicated them in the Sh791 million NYS scandal.

“The leaders of Jubilee in Parliament all of them are the ones who came here to say that the Waiguru issue was a question of those who want to destabilize the Jubilee Administration, but we’ve been vindicated. I talked about these issues and they said I was being used by dark forces that Waiguru was a witness, she was a whistle-blower… and it has been proved that they were part of the loot.”

“We now understand why the motion to impeach Waiguru was being rubbished by the Jubilee Coalition leadership in the National Assembly,” Keter said on Wednesday.

The Nandi Hills MP asserted that the damning allegations contained in Waiguru’s affidavit linking the two to the scandal, was so damaging they need further investigations.

The two as well as Deputy President William Ruto’s aide Farouk Kibet are named in the Waiguru affidavit.

Keter asked DPP Keriako Tobiko to direct the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to institute fresh investigation on those implicated in Waiguru’s affidavit which he said was enough to facilitate the investigations.

The Nandi Hills MP on two occasions filed censure motions against the former CS, but his attempts failed after Speaker Justin Muturi rejected them “for failing to meet requirements.”

Keter also criticized the EACC, questioning how quickly her case was earlier handled while other officials facing corruption allegations have had ongoing cases since 2014.

Duale earlier denied involvement in the scandal, accusing Waiguru of “dragging people’s names in the mud and introducing non-existent petty politics”.

He challenged Waiguru to instead respond to issues raised in a damning affidavit by businesswoman Josephine Kabura, a key suspect in the scandal.

Sudi, on his part said that he was pressurised by Duale and Murkomen to withdraw his support for Waiguru’s impeachment motion.
