DPP details progress of 88 high profile cases

NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 26 – The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) on Friday released a summary of high profile corruption and economic crimes cases pending in court.

The Anglo Leasing case in which former Minister David Mwiraria is accused of conspiracy to procure security equipment worth 40,000,000 Euros will be heard on March 28-31.

Mwiraria is accused of conspiring to commit an economic crime and fraudulent acquisition of property.

According to a summary of cases released by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on Friday, the case against Dr Chris Obure who faces charges of abuse of office, engaging in public procurement and breach of trust will be heard on 14 and 18 March.

Both Mwiraria and Obure are charged alongside others for Anglo Leasing types of contracts.

The National Youth Service IFMIS corruption case against Engineer Peter Mangiti who is charged alongside others for stealing NYS funds will be in court from March 22 to 24.

Former Chief Registrar of the judiciary Gladys Shollei will be expected in the corridors of justice on May 10 to 12 during the hearing of a case in which she is accused of abuse of office in the procurement and acquisition of the Chief Justice’s premises.

The prosecution will present its last witnesses in the irregular procurement of cemetery land case involving Sammy Kirui and others on March 22-24.

On March 3, the case against Director General of NYS Dr Nelson Githinji who is accused of abuse of office by servicing and maintaining private owned vehicle at Sh497,335 paid by NYS will be mentioned.

In total, the DPP detailed progress of 88 high profile cases involving a big number of individuals.

The ODPP further released another list containing 371 corruption and economic cases pending in court.
