NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 29 – The ruling on the bail application of a pilot who allegedly assaulted a policewoman in Nyandarua was due to be made on Monday at the Kinangop Law courts

Alistair Patrick last week denied charges of assault and causing disturbance, after he was caught on camera having an altercation with the police officer when excited children went close to his helicopter.

Patrick had flown Deputy President William Ruto to attend a church service in the area.

Following the incident, the pilot was arrested in Nairobi and briefly detained at the Kilimani Police station, before being taken to Nyandarua where the crime was committed.

Kwae Island Development Limited, which operates helicopter 5Y-DSN also terminated his services following the incident, that caused uproar on social media.

Police acted after Deputy President William Ruto asked them to investigate the incident. The DP had hired the chopper.

He said he had been made aware of the video that was widely circulated on social media.

In Parliament, women MPs condemned the incident and urged authorities to take tough action against the pilot.

In the video, the pilot is seen emerging from the helicopter, after a crowd of children surged towards it, before shouting insults at the policewoman and grabbing her swagger stick.

At some point he is seen pushing the policewoman, as a crowd watches in disbelief.
