NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 31 – Water and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa on Sunday summoned Elgeyo Marakwet political leaders and managers of water parastatals to attend a meeting to discuss a stalemate over the establishment of Arror Dam.

Chairmen of Lake Victoria North Water Service Board and Kerio Valley Development Authority, the Chief Executive Officers of both Parastatals together with the Governor, Senator and Members of Parliament for Keiyo Marakwet County were notified to attend the crisis meeting slated for Monday.

The Arror Dam is among the 18 projects approved by the cabinet under the implementation of Vision 2030 projects to accelerate development in Kerio Valley and spread to other parts of the country.

Upon completion, the Sh26 billion project is expected to generate 60 Megawatts of Hydro Power and provide water for irrigation for over 2,500 hectares.

Wamalwa explained that the tender for the project was advertised and said it was important for the work to commence without any delays.

The project is expected to take four to five years

“The Authority advertised through open Tender for the Design, Funding and construction in 2015 and received several Bidders. Evaluation is completed and outstanding works is progressing.”
