MTWAPA, Kenya, Jan 20 – President Uhuru Kenyatta has said he is working to fulfill the pledges he made to the people of Kenya and in that task, he is not in competition with any other elected leader.
He said Kenya is a democracy and holds elections after every five years but after the polls, Kenyans must shelve political differences and work together to develop the country.
“I am not in competition with any governor, any MP or any other elected leader. No one will stop me from doing what Kenyans elected me to do. I will implement development in all parts of the country without discrimination,” President Kenyatta said.
He was speaking at Mtwapa, Kilifi County, where he stopped to address residents.
He cited the issuance of title deeds in Likoni and Lamu, the launch of the construction of the Port Reitz-Moi International access road, the commissioning of the Sh46 million water project in Faza, the launch of the national street lighting project and the construction of the Sh573 million Baricho water project as some of the development he has presided over during his visit to the Coast.

“We are doing all this because we know Kenyans will not benefit from endless political bickering, but tangible development that has direct impact on their lives,” President Kenyatta said.
He urged leaders to respect one another, embrace mature, issue-based politics and join hands in serving Kenyans once elections are over.
“Time has come for true leaders to stand out and abandon outdated tribal politics,” President Kenyatta said.

Kilifi South MP Mustafa Idd, the local legislator, thanked President Kenyatta for the street lighting project in Mtwapa.
Responding to Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi over payment of the electricity bill for street lights in the town, Idd said if the governor will not pay he will mobilise Mtwapa traders to deny the county government rates.
National Assembly Majority leader Aden Duale said Jubilee is an action-oriented government that will not be distracted by the noise from the Opposition.
He said the next General Election will not be contested on the platform of political rhetoric, but the actual development, which the Government has implemented.
Duale took issue with Governor Kingi, saying he did not have to go “all the way to Nairobi” to hold a press conference on the President’s visit.
Coast Parliamentary Group Chairman Gideon Mung’aro, who is also the Kilifi North MP, said Kingi should stop panicking as the President is in Coast for development and not politics.
