NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 22- President Uhuru Kenyatta will on Friday visit Kenya Defense Forces soldiers injured in the El Adde attack in Somalia who are recuperating at the Armed Forces Memorial Hospital in Nairobi.

The President will also visit and speak with families of the troops at the hospital. President Kenyatta will later join families of the injured soldiers for a special remembrance event.

“He will make an address to an audience including troops, their families, diplomats and senior government officials,” State House Spokesperson Manoah Esipisu said.

According to Esipisu, representatives of AMISOM (African Union Mission in Somalia) troop-contributing countries have, “been invited to attend the event, as well as representatives of the African Union and the United Nations.”

The attack has been termed as the worst in the history of Kenya by the Chief of Defence Forces Samson Mwathethe.

Mwathethe has also explained how the attack happened which left the soldiers with nothing much to do.

President Kenyatta issued a terse statement about the attack on the AMISOM camp in Somalia, confirming that an undisclosed number of Kenyan soldiers were killed.

The attack occurred when Al Shabaab terrorists attacked the AMISOM base in El Adde at about 4 am.

“Regrettably, some of our patriots in uniform paid the ultimate price. It is heart-breaking,” President Kenyatta said, and vowed “We will not be cowed by these cowards. With our allies, we will continue in Somalia to fulfil our mission.”
