NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 25 – The medical officer in charge of Kamiti Maximum Prison Dr Stephen Nyakeri was on Monday morning found dead inside his house within the prison compound.

Deputy Director Health Services at Kenya Prisons Dr Charles Isiaho says it’s a big loss for the prison service owing to his experience in dealing with inmates.

“He has been working for Kenya prisons for close to 18 years. He was this morning found dead and the case has been handed over to the police,” he said.

“We await the instructions and whatever findings they will provide.”

Police have already launched investigations over the cause of the death of the longest serving medical serving officer at the Kenya Prisons.

His death came hours after an attempted escape by an inmate serving lifetime imprisonment at the facility on Sunday night was foiled.
