NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 25 – Dozens of hawkers thronged the High Court on Monday to witness a fourth Nairobi County askari plead to the charge of murdering one of their own over two years ago.

Ambani Akasi alias Wasi Wasi who was arraigned before Justice James Wakiaga denied killing Irungu Kamau on September 16, 2013 together with Alfred Manyara, Marigo Protus Magara and Joseph Onyango Ochieng at Nyam Hotel along Duruma Road in Nairobi.

He was ordered remanded at the Industrial Area prison pending the hearing of an application for bail on February 22.

Before which, Justice Wakiaga ordered, the suspect should be taken for finger printing at the Kamukunji Police Station.

Akasi’s three co-accused pleaded to the murder charge on January 12 before Justice Luka Kimaru who issued a warrant for Akasi’s arrest after the prosecution told the court that he had gone into hiding.

On Friday two of the witnesses identified to testify to the murder were separately charged before Chief Magistrate Daniel Ogembo for wilful damage to property.

Josephine Wambui and Naomi Ndinda are accused of damaging four windows of a Toyota Hilux belonging to the Nairobi County Council valued at Sh15,000.

It is not clear whether the murder and property damage are connected.

They two were released on a Sh10,000 cash bail each and their case scheduled for hearing on February 18.
