MALINDI, Kenya, Jan 1 – Deputy President William Ruto has urged Kenyans to live harmoniously and shun tribalism and religious division in the New Year.

He also asked Christians and Muslims to co-exist harmoniously.

Ruto and his wife Rachel, who had joined worshippers at the Jesus Care Centre Church, Malindi in ushering the New Year, said it was time Kenyans united to fight any evil.

“We should all know that we have only one country. We do not have Kenyans from this tribe or that religion,” he said.

Ruto asked Kenyans to resist those advancing tribalism and religious hatred.

“Let us respect and love each other. Muslims and Christians are one people, either from upcountry, the Coast or any part of the county.”

The Deputy President said the recent heroic act by Muslims who defended Christians against being harmed by the Al Shabaab militia should be emulated by all Kenyans.

Ruto was accompanied by the newly appointed Mining Cabinet Secretary Dan Kazungu who is the former Malindi MP and Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung’aro.

Mung’aro, who declared his interest to vie for Kilifi Governor’s seat in 2017, thanked the Government for appointing Kazungu.
He said leaders in the area have vowed to ensure the vacant MP’s seat is won by Jubilee Party in the March by-election.

Kazungu said he will deliver in his new mandate in helping the government deliver services to the people.

She urged the women of Kilifi County to engage in table banking as a way of uplifting their living standards.
